In order to begin the program installation from the executable file, it is enough to launch it using the double mouse click; in order to install the program from the ZIP-archive, it should be unpacked first and then the file MAPILabReports2007Beta.exe is to be launched.
Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 is required to begin the installation. If it is absent, the program will automatically start to download it from the Microsoft.com web-site. The component size is 2.5 Mb. During the installation process the program checks the presence of the following components: Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 and Microsoft Management Console 3.0. The program will not allow you to continue the installation, if one of the above components is absent. In this case they must be downloaded from the Microsoft web-site and installed. After that the installation of MAPILab Reports 2008 must be launched again:
On the next step it is necessary to accept the license agreement. Please, review the license agreement before accepting it, after that select «I accept the terms of the license agreement» and get over to the next installation step. Specify the path to the program home folder, in which it is going to be installed or accept the path offered by the program. By default the program is installed on the following path:
C:\Program Files\MAPILab Ltd\MAPILab Reports 2007\
On the next step you will be offered to select the installation type:
When selecting the “Complete” installation, the following components will be installed:
- snap-in MMC for creating reports;
- program for viewing and editing appearance of reports;
- database for pack of reports on Microsoft Exchange Server;
- database for pack of reports on IT-infrastructure;
- pack of reports on Microsoft Exchange Server;
- pack of reports on IT-infrastructure.
If the variant “custom installation” is selected, you will be able to specify the components, which must be installed and which must be not.
Note that for the initial installation all components are obligatory. If any of them is disabled, you will not be able to perform the program testing. If the program has been already installed in the network and must be updated or installed on another computer in the network, it is possible to use the variant of custom installation and disable the components, which you don`t want to be installed or updated.
On the next installation step you must specify the database, which will store all collected data.
Click the button “Browse” in order to view the list of all available database servers and select the server that is going to be used for the data storing. Further, specify the name of the product database and it will created on the selected server.
Note that the user, on whose computer MAPILab Reports 2008 is installed, must have access permissions to the selected database server.
After selecting the database server and specifying the name of the product database, you must select the authentication type, which can be the following:
After this step everything is prepared for the installation of the product MAPILab Reports 2008.
First-time configuration and start of program usage
After the completing the installation MAPILab Reports will appear in the Start Menu:
The shortcut “Management Console” launches the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) with the snap-in MAPILab Reports 2008.
The shortcut “Report Viewer” launches the Report Viewer, which allows you to view and edit the appearance of reports and also to export them into different formats. Also, the viewing program is launched automatically after the creation of a report from the snap-in MMC.
After the first start of the program it is necessary to check the settings of report packs and the possibility to connect to the data base server. For that it is necessary to right mouse click on the report pack and select the item “Properties”:

Proceed to the tab Data collection and click the “Browse” button:
After that click the button Test Connection to check the connection with the database server. If the connection is established, the work with the program can begin. If not, setup the parameters of the server connection and check the connection availability once more. If you change the parameters of the server connection, make sure to apply these changes in the second report pack “Network Infrastructure” too.
Database filling
After the creation the database is empty, and it is necessary to fill it in with the data. Without any data in the base the reports will contain only field names and graphic elements.
In order to fill in the database, it is necessary to select a desired report by double-clicking the report name:
After that the report creation wizard is launched:
On the third step of the wizard it is necessary to click the button “Edit advanced settings” and select the mode “Collect report data immediately”
After that the process of filling in the database with the data essential for creating the selected report will be started.
